Early Life

Blake Tollison Shelton was born on 18th July of 1976, in Oklahoma. He was born to mother Dorothy who was a beauty salon owner and father Richard Shelton who was a car salesman.

Unfortunately, he lost his elder brother, 24 during the time, in an automobile accident.

Education

Blake finished his High School at the age of 17. Soon after, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his career as a singer.

Early Career

Blake was 12 years old when he started singing. His uncle later, even taught him how to play a guitar. In addition to that, he wrote his first song at the age of only 15!

Consequently at the age of 16, Blake received Denbo Diamond Award.

As a singer

After Shelton had moved to Nashville, he started working at a music publishing company. And later in 1997, Bobby Braddock, a country songwriter, helped him land a contract with Sony Music.

By 2001, Blake Shelton got signed to  Giant Records. In the same year, he was about to release the song ‘I Wanna Talk about Me’ which, however, got criticized for being  unsuitable as a lead-off single. But later the same song got recorded by  Toby Keith. And, furthermore, his version ended up being the number one version.

Meanwhile, the song ‘Austin’ instead was released which became Shelton’s Debut song. The song was on the chart of Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks for straight up five weeks!

But unfortunately, Gaint Records closed down, and Blake Shelton got transferred to  Warner Bros. Records which is a parent company. ‘Austin‘ gained a lot of positive reviews and Maria Konicki Dinoia of Allmusic even stated that the song was tremendously imaginative.

In February of 2003, Shelton released his second album under Warner Bros. Records. ‘The Baby‘ is a leadoff single from the album, and it was also in the 1st position of country charts for straight up three weeks. In July of 2011, Blake Shelton released his album ‘ Red River Blue .’

Furthermore, his album was soon followerd by another single ‘Honey Bee.’ And, in just a week’s time, the song was downloaded 138 thousand times on various platforms. By the seventh week, the song was certified gold. It even made the record for as the fastest gold certification. ‘Honey Bee‘ is also his the single to get to the 1st place of charts for Hot Country Songs. The song sold a total of 110 thousand copies.

 

The Voice and Recent works

From 2011, he also started coaching in ‘The Voice’ which aired on NBC. In the first season, Dia Frampton (his finalist) came second.

In 2013, his single ‘Sure Be Cool If You Did’ which was released on iTunes on 8th January, also got to the top of the chart for Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay. ‘Based on a True Story,’ his 8th studio album which was released on 2013, 26th of March.

Also, the album made a debut on the top of country chart and 3rd in the chart of all-genre. He managed to sell an impressive total of 2 hundred thousand copies of the album.
