Eric Allen Stonestreet is an American actor, loved by everyone for his portrayal of Cameron Tucker on the popular comedy sitcom- Modern Family. The role earned him 2 Emmy Awards and nominations under the category ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.’

Early Life

Eric Allen Stonestreet was born on 9th September of 1971 in  Kansas City, USA, to mother Jamey Anne and father, Vincent Anthony “Vince” Stonestreet. He has a German ancestry.



Eric went to  Piper High School and then attended  Kansas State University. In 1996, he graduated with a  degree in sociology. In addition to that, he participated in the Second City Training Center and  ImprovOlympic in Chicago.


Early Career

As a child, Eric wanted to be a clown. He even created his clown character, Fizbo. Stonestreet even started to perform at birthday parties at the age of 11 as Fizbo.

Meanwhile, Eric performed in plays most notably ‘Prelude to a Kiss’ when he was in University. Later, he moved to LA to pursue his career as a professional actor.

In 1996, Stonestreet featured in a football TV commercial campaign by  Northwestern University as the ‘purple pride guy.’ 


As an actor

He made his debut in 2000’s comedy drama film ‘Almost Famous.’ as Sheldon, a desk clerk. The movie was a massive hit and is rated 7.9 on IMDb, even landing an Oscar win for best writing screenplay written directly for the screen. The film also bagged an impressive 52 other awards and 102 additional nominations!

In addition to that, Eric then featured in notable movies like The Island. Girls Will Be Girls and Vinny’s Vault which is a short film in 2007.

However, his epic portrayal of the lovely gay family man, Cameron Tucker in sitcom ‘Modern Family.’ has defined his career. He has over 20  award nominations for his role in the series and has bagged an impressive seven awards, 2 of which are individual awards for his performances as a supporting actor.

Furthermore, from 2013 onwards, Eric appeared in many advertisements. In 2014, he also performed in a parody music video where he acted as someone called ‘Tacky.’

More recently, in 2016, Stonestreet also lent his voice to a character named ‘Duke’ in 2016’s movie ‘The Secret Life of Pets.’ Also, Stonestreet appeared as himself in an episode of Blue Peter and made an appearance as Kenneth Duberstein in 2016’s television film Confirmation.

Eric earned over 20  award nominations for his involvement in the fan favorite popular series ‘Modern Family.’ Also, he has won seven awards of which two were individual achievements awarded by Primetime Emmy Awards for his performances as a supporting actor in 2010 and 2012!

Stonestreet is commonly known for his role as a gay in Modern Family. But in reality, he is a heterosexual and openly straight.

He is even called ‘gay-for-pay’ as a joke by his co-star of Modern Family ‘ Mitchell Pritchett,’ the actor plays his husband in the series.
