Britain-born Indian actor Kunal Nayyar is also a writer and one of the actors in super-hit comedy show ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ In the show, Nayyar plays the role of Rajesh Koothrappali, an astrophysicist. In the show, he plays alongside actors Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, etc.
Kunal was born in Britain to an Indian family. However, he prefers being called an ‘Indian’ instead of a British-Indian.

Kunal is from a Punjabi Family, and he was born in Hounslow, London, on 30th April of 1981.

In the beginning, Kunal started to work in American advertisements and London stage after he graduated from the Temple University.
In 2006, Kunal played the role of Rajiv Joseph in play Huck & Holen. His portrayal of the Rajiv in the West Coast production play is what provided him exposure for the first time. In the play, Nayyar’s character was an Indian exchange student who was very anxious to learn about American culture.
Kunal later made an appearance in the 12th episode of NCIS: Season 4 as Youssef Zidan. He character in the show was a terrorist from Iraq.
Before getting assigned with The Big Bang Theory, Nayyar was encouraged by his agent to audition for the role of a scientist. As suggest, he auditioned, and also, he won and was cast as astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali in comedy show ‘The Big Bang Theory.’
Kunal along with his ‘The Big Bang Theory’ co-star Simon Helberg hosted the ‘Tribute to Nerds’ show. It was in 2011 during the comedy festival Just for Laughs.
Later in 2012, Kumar played the voice of Gupta in the animated movie Ice Age: Continental Drift.
In the same year, he completed the shooting of his very first film in Toronto. The name of the movie is’Dr. Cabbie’. The movie is a production of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
One of his most recent work in voice acting is in ‘Trolls’ an animated film. In it, Kunal played the voice of Guy Diamond.
Currently, he is working on Disney Pixar’s Cars 3 as the voice of character Aziz. The film will be releasing in 2017.
As a writer
In 2006, Kunal Nayyar teamed up with Arun Das and wrote a play called ‘Cotton Candy.’ The play premiered in New Delhi, and it also gained a ton of positive reviews.
Later in 2015, he wrote another book called ‘Yes, My Accent is Real.’ The book is about the journey of his career, and it was published in September of 2015.

In 2006, Kunal Nayyar won the Garland Award for the category ‘Best Male Lead in a Play.’ He got the award for his role in ‘Huck and Holden’.
Later in 2012, he earned a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as Raj in ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ But he did not win the award.
