Sara Ramirez was born on 31 August of 1975 in Mazatlán, Sinaloa of Mexico. Her mother has an ancestry of Irish-American while her father has Mexican ancestry.
When she was 8, her parents got a divorce. The separation resulted in Sara moving to San Diego, the USA with her mother and finally settling there.
Sara went to San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts where she completed her course.
She later attended Juilliard School of Drama and graduated from there in 1997 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts.

In 2009, Ramirez sang in Grey’s Anatomy’s title soundtrack, Silent Night, and for the episode ‘Holidaze.’ The episode aired on 19th November that year. Sara was then involved in other soundtracks for the show notably in ‘Song Beneath the Song.’
Consequently, on 27th March of 2011, Sara made a debut as a solo singer. The extended version of the single song was released on Itunes on the exact day.
