Early Life

Sia Kate Isobelle Furler was born to her parents Phil Colson and Loene Furler. Her birthdate is 18 December 1975, and her birthplace is Adelaide, South Australia. She is also the niece of the musicians Kevin Colson and Colin Hay.

Education

For her primary schooling, she attended the Adelaide High School. Unfortunately, there is no information about her further educational status.

Early Career

Sia started her music career as a singer in the local band called Crisp. Along with them, she collaborated to record two of their EPs “Word” and “The Deal.”

The band later disbanded in 1997, and she then started her solo singing career. Her debut album “OnlySee” was released soon after. She joined nd provided vocals for several bands including- Jamiroquai, and Zero 7.

Beginning

After collaborating with various bands and providing voices for tracks, she finally signed a contract with the music label- Dance Pool. Her first single released was- “Taken For Granted.” The single peaked up to number 10 on the UK Singles Chart.

Her Jazz album- “Healing is Difficult” was released on 2001 through the Sony Music. This album being very personal to her, she was not happy about how the manager promoted the album. She went on to fire the manager and left the Sony Music.

After that, she joined the Go! Beat of the Universal Music Group in 2002. Through her lyrical skills, she won the APRA Awards for the Breakthrough Songwriter.

She then released her third album- “Color the Small One.” Despite the positive reviews, the album did not garner much mainstream audience or even the musical market.

After the struggle with her previous album, in 2007, she released her live album- Lady Croissant. Her fourth studio album “Some People Have Real Problems” followed a year later. This was her first album to chart in the US, and it peaked up to number 26.

On May 2009, she released her DVD- Tv is My Parent for which she won the ARIA Music Awards for the Best Music DVD category. The following year she released her fifth studio album- “We Are Born.” The album was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The album won her two ARIA Music Awards of 2010.

Depression & Breakthrough

The fame that she garnered from her successful music career began getting more difficult for her to handle. She disclosed her desire to have a private life, and she started wearing masks and appearing less and less in all of her music videos. She denied doing any promos for her tours, and she became more and more dependent on drugs and alcohol. The situation became so worse that at one time, she even considered suicide.

Because of this, she officially retired from her career as a singer and started working as a songwriter. Not long after, she helped write the song “Titanium” for David Guetta. She wrote various songs for other popular artists like- Beyonce, Rihanna as well ass Kylie Minogue and Flo Rida.

She returned to the music scene when she released her track- Elastic Heart as one of the soundtracks for the film- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Her sixth studio album “1000 forms of Fear” was released in 2014. The album was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association and became commercially very successful.

She released her seventh studio album- This is Acting in 2016. For her work on the album, she is nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2017.
